Recognize workplace violence, from threats and verbal abuse to assault, whether it comes from a patient, a visitor, an intruder or even a coworker, calm a rising situation the way NIOSH advises, remove yourself and call security when it cannot be calmed quickly, and report every incident, knowing that retaliation for reporting it to your employer or OSHA would violate the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
